Six Letter Workshop

Your game, your choices

The browser game keeps your progress on your device. Usage measurement is optional. Feedback is sent only when you choose to send it.

Saved progress and settings

The website stores game progress and settings in your browser. It also caches game files for offline play. There is no account or automatic cloud-save sync. Different browsers, devices and installed home-screen copies may have separate saves.

Progress backups are files you explicitly download or restore. They include saved progress and settings, including found words. The game does not upload these backups to the feedback or measurement service. A results share sends only the text you choose to share through your device's share or copy controls.

To remove local progress, use the game's recovery controls where available or your browser's site-data controls. Clearing site data can remove saves, cached files and local usage preferences. It does not itself request deletion of usage events or feedback already received by the server. Download a backup first if you want to keep your progress.

Optional usage measurement

Measurement starts off. You can enable it in Privacy and options, turn it off at any time, or keep it off and play normally. A previously enabled choice for this browser remains your choice until you change it. The game respects the browser's Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals by disabling optional measurement.

If enabled, the game sends a random browser-local participant identifier, broad browser and screen-size categories, the game version, a minute-rounded time and a limited set of events:

Some events include the mode, puzzle date or whether assistance was used. These records do not include your guessed words, rack letters, answers, score, save file, full browser fingerprint, page URL or referrer. A share-button event does not establish that someone visited the shared link.

The server stores a hash of the participant identifier with usage events. This still permits events from the same identifier to be grouped; it is not a claim that all records are anonymous.

While offline, up to 32 queued events may remain on your device for up to 48 hours. Turning measurement off clears this queue and stops sending events. The local identifier is retained so you can request deletion of earlier records.

Deleting optional usage records

In the game, open Privacy and options and select Delete usage measurement data and turn it off. A confirmed request deletes that identifier's usage events, turns measurement off and clears its local identifier without erasing your saved game. If deletion cannot be confirmed, the identifier is retained so you can retry.

A hash marking a deleted identifier is kept temporarily to prevent delayed offline queues from recreating deleted events. If you later choose to enable measurement after confirmed deletion, a new identifier is created. An earlier playtest may have a separate deletion control if its identifier is still available in your browser.

Clearing site data first can remove the local identifier needed to make this request. Optional measurement deletion does not delete feedback because feedback is stored separately and has no participant identifier.

Feedback and support messages

The in-game feedback form and Support page send only when you press Send. They include the category and text you chose, a random report ID, game version, broad browser family and screen-size category. No save, answers or guessed words are attached automatically. A word or contact address you choose to include in a message is sent as part of that text.

Support works with optional usage measurement off and does not enable it. There is no automatic retry of a failed support message. If delivery is uncertain, retrying the unchanged message reuses its report ID to avoid duplicates.

The Support page shows a Feedback ID after confirmed delivery. Keep it if you may want to ask about or request deletion of that report. Send privacy questions or requests through the Support form, including the relevant Feedback ID if available. A receipt acknowledges delivery; it does not guarantee a personal reply or confirm that a request has been resolved.

Email support

You can contact sixletterworkshop@gmail.com for support or privacy requests. Email shares your sender address and the content you send through your email provider and Gmail. It is separate from the game feedback database and its automatic retention cleanup. Email only the information needed for your request.

Retention and hosting

Usage events, feedback and deleted-identifier markers older than 90 days are removed when the service next processes an accepted events, feedback or deletion request. This cleanup happens on requests, not on a timer, so records can remain beyond 90 days until another such request is processed.

The website and its hosting providers necessarily process network requests to deliver pages, game files and submitted messages. This can include ordinary connection data such as IP addresses and request details. The game's limited usage-event fields are not a claim that hosting infrastructure processes no connection data.

iOS edition in preparation

A native iOS edition is being prepared. Its planned design stores progress and settings on the device, with no accounts, cloud saves, advertising, purchases or usage analytics. It opens this website only when you choose an external support link. Using the website or its Support form follows the web practices described above. App availability and the final native privacy details will be provided with that release.
